Václav Pižl was a head of ISB for 18 years

At the end of June 2017, Václav Pižl finished the second term of office in the position of the Director of the Institute of Soil Biology. The leading of the Institute he handed over to his successor and current deputy, Karel Tajovský, but he will continue to research in the field of soil zoology focused on biology and ecology of earthworms.

This year, Václav Pižl started his fourth decade of working at the Institute of Soil Biology. As a scientific assistant he joined in 1986, three years earlier, in 1983, he started his scientific aspirantry at the then Laboratory of Soil Biology, which was a part of the Institute of Landscape Ecology of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences. After Josef Rusek, who stood at the founding of a separate Institute of Soil Biology in 1986 and led it then, Václav Pižl was the second director of this workplace and headed it from 1998 until the end of June 2017.

On the occasion of Václav Pižl's passing the baton of to the new director Karel Tajovský, a small party took place in the garden of the Na Sádkách complex. Václav Pižl received a thank-you letter, a commemorative key from the Institute and a personal gift from the staff of the Institute.
